Myanmar Climate Action Week 2023 (20 ~ 26 March 2023)
UN-Habitat aims to organize the Climate Action Week event from March 20–26 in collaboration with development partners and various climate actors. The event will be held annually for three years as part of the Myanmar Climate Change Alliance II (MCCA-II). The first climate action week, in 2023, will kick off the MCCA climate action network and campaign.
The climate action week event will seek to engage stakeholders such as UN agencies, INGOs, NGOs, CSOs, professional and research institutes, the media, the private sector, and so on. CAW 2023 will officially launch the Myanmar Climate Action Network (M-CAN). This event will serve as a platform for stakeholders to: advocate for urgent climate action; exchange knowledge and ideas; promote best practices; strengthen partnerships; effectively coordinate; and explore opportunities to mobilize resources jointly.
On March 21, there will be a hybrid opening session as well as the launch of the Myanmar Climate Action Network (M-CAN). The panel will include representatives from NGOs, academia, CSOs, youth groups, and the media. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the broader themes and current trends of climate action in Myanmar.
On March 24, UN-Habitat will host a hybrid focus session on nature-based solutions to strengthen adaptation and climate resilience in Myanmar. The goal is to increase partnerships and collaboration in order to raise climate ambition. The presenters will discuss how climate change has affected them in various parts of Myanmar, including the dry zone, coastal areas, hilly areas, and cities, during the session.
In addition to the main session, the MCCA 2 team will assist partner organizations in conducting a variety of activities, such as climate action community events like tree planting, film screenings, school competitions, capacity building workshops, a panel discussion on thematic or sectoral topics, a talk show, and so on.
